TRX is proud to announce that Dr. Carole Teolis, Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of TRX Systems, was recently inducted into the University of Maryland’s A. James Clark School of Engineering Innovation Hall of Fame. This distinguished honor recognizes individuals whose pioneering work has made significant contributions to society through technological innovation and engineering excellence. The induction announcement commended Dr. Teolis for “improving security, aiding military operations, and protecting lives through GPS-denied positioning technologies and infrastructure-free tracking solutions.” Dr. Teolis (BS ’86, MS ’89, PhD ’94) earned dual bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering and mathematics, and her master’s and doctorate degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland (UMD). Subsequently, she co-founded TRX Systems as a Clark School Mtech Ventures incubator company and evolved it into an industry leader in Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) solutions. Dr. Teolis’ doctoral research in adaptive signal processing and control systems laid the foundation for TRX’s patented innovations in sensor fusion, navigation integrity estimation, localization, and mapping. Those efforts led to a milestone achievement in 2023, when TRX received a Program of Record contract from the U.S. Army to deliver the Dismounted Assured PNT System, known commercially as TRX DAPS II. A state-of-the-art navigation system, TRX DAPS II leverages M-Code GPS and other technology layers to deliver Assured PNT information to soldiers operating in situations where GPS is denied or compromised. Since its inception in 1985, the University of Maryland’s Innovation Hall of Fame has celebrated and fostered a culture of innovation and excellence, serving as a tribute to the Maryland engineers whose legacies are an inspiration for the next generation of engineers, innovators, and inventors.
