April 30, 2008 - TRX team demonstrates SentinelTM Firefighter Location and Accountability System at 2008 Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Conference .  Steve Edwards, director of the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute at the University of Maryland, introduced the TRX Firefighter Location and Accountability System and other research to improve firefighter safety ongoing in coordination with MFRI. TRX Founder, Dr. Gil Blankenship and Eric Kohn gave a presentation and live demonstration of the SentinelTM system. The demonstration started with the team, Ben Funk, Amrit Bandyopadhyay and David Lemus outfitted with tracking hardware and in fire turnout gear outside of the hotel.  The command station was also outside mimicking the most likely configuration at an actual incident. Inside, a remote view of the base station tracking data was simultaneously displayed via a broadband wireless connection to a laptop in the conference room.  The remote view emulated an Incident Commander monitoring the display of a Battalion Commander managing his team.

As the team was given the call to come in, the audience was able to watch the monitor and "see" them as they approached the building, entered through the lobby, went up the stairs to the second floor and around to the conference room. The figure shows the final track results on the second floor map. To cap the demonstration, TRX then showcased the stance determination and automatic alarming capabilities of the system. Team members assumed crawling and back laying positions that were then automatically reflected in the display software. Members then stood motionless simulating an incapacitated firefighter causing the units to detect distress and produce an alarm condition automatically.  Press Release
