First Responders

Safeguard Personnel with Precise Knowledge of Location

First responders face danger every day – often in urban areas and buildings where GPS location technologies don’t work.  Both command effectiveness and personnel safety could be dramatically improved if the location of personnel operating Indoors was known to commanding officers.

NEON is being applied to deliver status and location within harsh and uncontrolled Indoor environments, delivering improved situational awareness for commanding officers and enhancing safety for law enforcement and fire personnel.  Key features include:

· Real-time 2D and 3D location of personnel

· Precise detail on personnel movement and activity

· Effective after action review

· Portable, lightweight, and rapidly deployed.

NEON's graphical user interface allows entry of building data either before an incident or on scene, and it presents personnel location information in an intuitive and easy to use display.  Integration with first responder radio and communications systems is ongoing and NEON is beginning trials and training system deployments for these mission critical safety applications.

TRX has been supported in the development of the NEON system for fire applications by the National Science Foundation, the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (through a DHS Fire Act Grant for research), and DHS S&T (as a team member on the DHS S&T GLANSER - Geospatial Location, Accountability, and Navigation System for Emergency Responders - program working with prime contractor Honeywell and team member Boeing Argon ST).
